Formed in early 2007, La Strada has quickly made a name for itself with raucous,
foot-stomping shows. The quintet sports a grand yet playful sound, and the live
lineup follows suit, expanding to include additional strings and horns. Recorded
at Miner Street Studios in Philadelphia and The Buddy Project in Queens, the
band s debut LP, New Home, features 13 tracks of raw emotion channeled into well
crafted pop songs. With influences ranging from ancient music to modern indie
rock, the band has garnered comparisons to Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, and
Arcade Fire. The group has already toured much of North America with the likes
of the Bowerbirds and Canada s Hey Rosetta! And Cuff the Duke.

this is the new hold steady, streamed originally from
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=126023882

despite the 128 cbr encoding, the sound quality is much better than the ones
that are floating the web, just compare.

When I heard the first few seconds of Heaven Is Whenever, I thought immediately
that this is not going to be a typical record from The Hold Steady. The bluesy,
breezy guitar lick that opens "The Sweet Part of the City" conjures up more
thoughts of the South than the band's New York City home or Twin Cities roots
might indicate.

Following the departure of keyboardist Franz Nicolay, there was talk that the
band might shake things up a bit. A bit, yes, but there's plenty for longtime
fans to love here. Tad Kubler's tremendous guitar riffs still reside at the
foreground of these well-written anthems. "You can't tell people what they want
to hear if you also want to tell the truth," Craig Finn sings in "Soft in the
Center." Yep, that's The Hold Steady.

The White Stripes - Under Great White Northern Lights (2010) Alt Rock

Release Notes

"Sing with me, Yellowknife!" Perhaps the most enjoyable thing about the White Stripes first live album is the knowledge that much of it was recorded in towns with populations smaller than most British football grounds. Released to accompany Emmett Malloy's documentary of the same name, the record captures a tour that took in gigs in each of Canada's territories – hence shows in places like tiny Arctic town Iqaluit. The Whites' contribution to the sometimes brilliant, frequently inessential live genre straddles those two categories. They're a great loud band, but apart from some bagpipes before Let's Shake Hands, there's little new or particularly interesting here. Plus Jack's predeliction for fretty onanism make it something you're unlikely to listen to more than once. The hits are all here though, and you can hear the Canuck fans' enthusiasm grow as a Jolene or a Blue Orchid swells into life and, as ever, it's hard not to "DUR, DUM DUM DUM DER DERRRR" with Seven Nation Army. UGWNL is a live album for those who were there, and unless you're one of 600 Iqalummiut fans, you probably weren't.

Ben Harper & Relentless7 - Live From The Montreal International Jazz Festival (2010)

On July 12, 2009, Ben Harper and Relentless7 captivated a massive crowd of 250,000 with a blistering performance that outshone the fireworks that accompanied it to close the Montreal International Jazz Festival on its 30th Anniversary. “What a memorable show. Ben Harper’s Relentless7 sublimely inspired, rocking like hell,” raves André Ménard, Creative Director of Le Festival de Jazz de Montréal.

Urgent. Infectious. Energized. That’s how Ben Harper and Relentless7 have been characterized and this special CD/DVD combo perfectly captures their impassioned artistry. Music critics praised the band’s performance with statements such as: “Ben Harper and the Restless 7: worthy of fireworks” (Journal de Montreal) and “Ben Harper powerfully espresses himself. Uncompromisingly intense, the pedal to the metal.” (Le Devoir).

The band too were incredibly moved by their experience of closing the esteemed Montreal Jazz Festival. “One of the greatest festivals in the world, in one of the greatest cities in the world, the Montreal International Jazz Festival has long been a musical home for me. This show was exceptionally special to myself and band because it felt like the entire city was there with us that night,” says Ben Harper.

The CD/DVD which will be released on March 9, 2010 gives those who attended the opportunity to relive the excitement of this unforgettable performance. It also allows fans who missed the event a chance to still experience the magic, including exciting covers of ‘Under Pressure‘ & ‘Red House.’
