SILENT CIVILIAN stormed onto the metal scene with their stunning debut offering,
Rebirth Of The Temple, in 2006 led by Spineshank vocalist Jonny Santos, who used
this platform to unleash all his inner demons. SILENT CIVILIAN are now back and
have come of age. No longer a side-project of Santos, but now his full-time
band. Brutal, intense, uncompromising and relenteless are just a few words that
one will use to describe the vicious new SILENT CIVILIAN album, Ghost Stories.
With Ghost Stories the band are back and their is definitely no shortage of
demons to be exorcised. This is the new wave of thrash metal.

Four-piece metal band Anew Revolution is launching their latest metal assault on
your ears on May 18th, 2010 titled iMerica. Made up of Joey Duenas (Ex-Unloco
vocalist), Frank Salvaggio and Rob Urbani (former members of Slaves on Dope),
and Shaun Stockton on guitar, and these guys combine to bring the heat! Upon
doing a little research on the band, I found them listed as hard rock, nu metal,
rock, and alternative, but this album is just metal to my ears. In listening to
previous efforts by Anew Revolution, I realized that iMerica is definitely
harder and more aggressive than their past effort, and a good direction for the
band.

iMerica opens with ôBroken Bones,ö and itÆs got everything a metal fan could
want to hear. This song swings for the fences knocking a homerun out of the
park. Overdriven guitar riffs and knock-your-teeth-out percussive beats really
start the album off in a strong way. Not to mention Joey DuenasÆ vocals match
perfectly when laid on top of the music. This is a good time to point out that
the songs on the album are extremely catchy. There are many sections throughout
each song that will get stuck in your head having you singing along long after
the cd is over.

I would also like to point out that iMerica is extremely radio friendly. Some
metal fans may not want to hear that, but, I could definitely see many of the
tracks being played on any weekly rock countdown across the country. I could
hear them being played right behind Nonpoint, Sevendust, or any other band that
gets some hard rock radio love. If youÆre a radio station manager, get on this
record. STAT!

Okay, back to the album. ôHead Against the Wall,ö starts off with a slow
lead-in, then giving subtle hints that itÆs going to get hard, and boy, that it
does. This track will grab hold of you and shake any cobwebs out of your head
with its intensity and aggressiveness. This not only could be another single,
but possibly my favorite track.

This album is full of great guitar riffs that will shred your eardrums into
little bits and pieces (listen to ôSocial Suicideö for a great example.)
Actually, that reminds meàöSocial Suicideö is yet another great track with its
catchy melodies that definitely gets stuck in your head. But donÆt let that fool
you, because this song bleeds ôawesome.ö

This release is guaranteed to get Anew Revolution out there, and IÆm hopeful it
gets them some attention on the air-waves! I know I talked a lot about the
radio-friendliness of the album, and again, I know that can carry a negative
stigma with some metalheads. But, I assure you that IÆd rather hear songs from
iMerica on the radio, rather than some of the current bands being played today.
If youÆre a fan of metal or hard rock, then I would strongly suggest you give
this album a listen. Anew Revolution have released a very solid effort that they
should be very proud to release.

The ALL/DescendentsÆ guitarist extraordinaire Stephen Egerton has stepped out on
his own and produced what is sure to be considered one of the best pop punk
records of this decade. IÆd go so far as to put this album up against any of the
genres greats because it is that good. The mixture of StephenÆs excellent
songwriting, musicianship, and production and the variety of vocals make for an
exceptionally enjoyable listen.

Admittedly the standout tracks to me are those featuring the vocal talents of
Chad Price (ALL), Scott Reynolds (ALL), and Milo Aukerman (Descendents). Those
three songs (ôFunny Face,ö ôSunny Disposition,ö and ôSheÆs Got Everythingö)
sound like those new ALL/DescendentsÆ songs that fans like me have been dying to
hear. But truth be told, there isnÆt a bad song in the bunch (in fact they are
all really f-ing good).

While The Seven Degrees of Stephen Egerton may not be that new ALL/Descendents
record, itÆs darned close but itÆs also more. These are great pop songs that
should be played on radios all across the country. They are anthems for summer
that will make you feel happy and want to dance and should be staples in heavy
rotation on iPods and playlists around the country. This is not only a must have
for fans of pop punk, but it is an album that fans of great pop songs all over
should own, pour over, and enjoy.

'Prove It' the new album from the Expendables, four piece from Santa Cruz, CA
ushers in a large arena rock sound coupled with a laidback California groove
that issues new blood in an era littered with fashionable screaming emo bands,
American Idol rejects, novice 3 chord pop punk, and single note solo rip-offs.
The Expendables forge hessian rock, reggae, dub, punk, and fisting pumping dual
guitar riffs into a unique fusion that pushes the envelope musically with a
product as groovy as the funky northern California beach town they grew up in,
but also with the rock and metal explosion you might have encountered at an
early eighties Ozzy show at The Cow Palace.

This album is a large step up for the Expendables, both in production and song
writing, and stylistically reveals them transcending the boundaries of what some
might consider the California reggae rock genre. The bands constant touring,
social networking prowess, and grass roots marketing combined with a loyal fan
base, and presence through Stoopid Recods will make this album a highly
anticipated spring release!

State Radio is an alternative rock band from Sherborn, Massachusetts, consisting
of Chad Urmston (lead vocals, guitar), Chuck Fay (bass) and Mike Najarian
(drums). The band's first full-length album, Us Against the Crown, was released
in December 2005, their second, Year of the Crow in September 2007, and their
most recent album, Let it Go, in September 2009.

A Boston based trio band led by singer and primary songwriter Chad Urmston (a
former member of Vermont jamsters Dispatch), State Radio largely managed to
avoid the usual post-Phish clichÚs, injecting a punk-influenced sound and
politically charged viewpoint while staying true to the tenets of the band's
chosen style, which infuses a blend of Roots-Reggae, Ska, Punk and Rock.

Urmston, who disbanded Dispatch at the height of its popularity in 2002, formed
State Radio later the same year. Focusing exclusively on guitar and vocals
instead of the instrument switching he was previously known for, he brought in
second guitarist Pete Halby, bassist Chuck Fay, and drummer Mike Greenfield to
round out the lineup. After the exploratory debut EP Flag of the Shiners was
released by Fenway Recordings in late 2002, State Radio went on a temporary
hiatus throughout 2003 as Urmston recovered from throat surgery. Returning to
active duty in 2004 as a slimmed-down trio with new drummer Brian Sayers, State
Radio followed a second EP, Simmer Kane, with the release of 2005's Us Against
the Crown. Another personnel change occurred before State Radio toured in
support of the album, with drummer Mike Najarian replacing Sayers.

The sophomore effort Year of the Crow followed in fall 2007, bringing with it an
emphasis on louder guitars and sociopolitical themes. State Radio reinforced
such themes by launching service projects in each city the band visited, and
Urmston briefly reconvened Dispatch for a three-night charity performance at
Madison Square Garden, with funds going toward Zimbabwe relief. State Radio
maintained such political awareness on 2009's Let It Go.

Official recording sessions for their third album began on November 3, 2008 in
North Brookfield, Massachusetts at Long View Farm Studios. The album, entitled
Let It Go, was released on September 29, 2009.

Following the release of "Let It Go" State Radio launched their winter tour. The
winter 2010 tour is titled "Lefty Rides Again" and will be visiting many cities
across the United States. State Radio will also be completing a small European
tour during the last two weeks of March.

Now they are releasing this Live At The Brattle Theatre 2 set acoustic cds, 29
live and acoustic tracks including State Radio rarities and newbies.

Enjoy!

A Loss for Words are a five-piece pop punk band from Boston, Massachusetts.
Having gained a good amount of attention from being associated with
Massachusetts brethren Four Year Strong, AL4W have followed in their steps by
creating a covers album. Motown Classics is A Loss for Words' first album for
Paper + Plastick Records and the follow-up to their debut The Kids Can't Lose.

How is it?

It's fun. A Loss for Words may not be as talented as some of their pop punk
peers, but they are certainly just as hardworking and passionate as any other
band out there. On this cover album, the band get a good selection of hits that
everyone should know by heart already, which makes for a few fun listens the
first times you hear the record. The lighthearted vocals and hook-laden guitar
parts show that A Loss for Words definitely know how to execute their style.
However, for the most part, this album drags on after a few listens. It's
generically enjoyable but it's repetitive and most listeners probably won't
return to Motown Classics save a few standout tracks. Choice cuts include "All
Night Long", "Do You Love Me", "My Girl", and "You Can't Hurry Love", but some
of the other tracks seem a bit filler-ish. On "I Want You Back", Alan Day and
Dan O'Connor of Four Year Strong are featured on vocals, nicely complementing A
Loss for Words' sound. "Do You Love Me" is my personal favorite, a short and
sweet number with a chorus that is easy to sing along to with your friends.

Summer has started, and if you're looking for a fun album or some car music,
look no further than this. A Loss for Words are as worthy of your dollar as any
other band out there. It's important to take this album for what it is and
nothing more; covers albums can come off as a disappointment to fans of a band,
but A Loss for Words have managed to put out a few fun songs that will be a
treat to hear live.

Danko Jones takes a lot of flak for the trend-averse sensibility that fuels his
unapologetic cock rock. But the Mango Kid (does anyone even call him that any
more?) is bound to have the last, Gene Simmonsûsized laugh as his riff-laden,
pop-inflected, high-energy jams are as catchy and punchy as ever on the trioÆs
fifth full-length, Below the Belt. ôMagic Snakeö is full of AC/DCûworthy
innuendo while ôFull of Regretö and ôI Think Bad Thoughtsö are decent anthems of
excess. Leaving the slightly psychedelic production of Never Too Loud behind,
however, robs BtB of dynamics and makes for little distinction among the 11
tracks. ôActive Volcanoes,ö on the other hand, offers the sort of Æ70s-sounding
cowbell rock that should play well with the KISS crowd.

ThereÆs a sentence in Dead Letter CircusÆ official bio that might just be the
first accurate thing a band has ever written about themselves, ôWatching someone
on their first listen to Brisbane alternative breakthroughs Dead Letter Circus
searching to come up with a neat description is fascinating viewing... ôItÆs
kind of like... no wait, itÆs more of a... Wow, I have no idea what it is, but
itÆs different...ö It describes the band perfectly, with their delay soaked
alternative rock drawing comparisons ranging from The Mars Volta to U2. For the
last couple of years with the help of a brilliant EP, thousands of very loyal
fans and more recently, a major label, DLC have become one of the more popular
bands in Australian rock. Thus with the release of their debut album there is
quite a large amount of expectation. Fans however, can rest easy, because the
album is killer.

Epic is a word thrown around all too frequently in reference to bands in this
genre, seemingly becoming just another genre name for bands with big vocals and
spaced out songs. However, on This is the Warning, Dead Letter Circus have
actually achieved the definition of epic. Coming across as a combination of The
Temper Trap, Karnivool and everything else in between, the band manage to
maintain an air of experimentation while still being inherently catchy. ThatÆs
essentially where This is the Warning succeeds as an album; it has a crossover
appeal that will appease music fans in general. This is particularly true on
songs such as the scintillating opener æHere We DivideÆ and the insanely catchy
æBig.Æ Both are songs that are reasonably straightforward in terms of structure,
but still manage to maintain interest over and over.

The bandÆs progression from their debut EP is apparent from the get go, both in
song writing and musicianship. Throughout This is the Warning there is a myriad
of extra sounds and instruments. This is particularly true for some of the more
experimental songs on the album, namely æThe DrumÆ and æThe Design.Æ Without
getting too far ahead of ourselves, æThe DrumÆ may just be the best thing DLC
has written. Featuring everything from industrial influences to Karnivool
inspired heaviness, æThe DrumÆ shows that Dead Letter Circus is not a æone trick
pony,Æ but is in fact capable of experimenting and, funnily enough, excelling at
it. æThe DrumÆ is quite a subdued track, giving vocalist Kim Benzie the perfect
vessel to prove his worth (If the rest of the album hadnÆt already done that for
you). æCageÆ also sees the band head in a new direction. While still a
straightforward song in terms of structure, it deviates from the traditional
Dead Letter Circus sound in that it is largely industrial based, particularly in
the chorus. This inclusion of new influences and instruments once again gives
the band room to experiment, giving rise to a brilliant song.

Staying true to their roots, there are a couple of songs that hark back to Dead
Letter CircusÆ early days. Fuelled by Rob Maric and his guitar delay, æThis Long
HourÆ is essentially æThe MileÆ on speed, featuring the best chorus that Dead
Letter Circus have written so far. While first single æThe Space on the WallÆ
sees the band in rock anthem mode, with Stewart HillÆs bass propelling the song.
Conversely, the title track and closer ditches the verse/chorus format all
together, giving drummer Luke Williams a chance to show off, pounding his toms
amidst BenzieÆs consistently astounding vocals. Williams also proves his worth
in æWalkÆ with the jangling guitars and huge vocal bridge providing the perfect
medium for him to experiment with his style, and doing so to perfection.

The only real negative is that a couple of the songs, namely æReactionÆ and
æNext In LineÆ are not completely new, having been around since early 2008.
Funnily enough, while they were probably considered some of Dead Letter CircusÆ
best songs prior to the albumÆs release, they are the two weakest tracks on the
album, if only for the fact that there is little deviation from the sound of
their debut EP. This however, should not be a deterrent, as they are both great
songs in their own right, they just lack the extra oomph and flesh that the rest
of the album has.

By including a huge range of new influences and sounds, Dead Letter Circus have
quashed fears that their sound was becoming stale and have instead created a
superb and diverse debut album. With This is the Warning under their belts it
shouldnÆt be long before everyone is on the DLC band wagon. You better jump on
quickly.

KNIVES OUT!, the new Baltimore, Maryland-based project featuring current/former
members of HELLYEAH, NOTHINGFACE, DOG FASHION DISCO and POLKADOT CADAVER, made
their live debut without guitarist Tom Maxwell at a sold out show on April 17th
at the Ottobar In Baltimore, MD.

“Knives Out played their 4th show, with a reunited for one night only Dog
Fashion Disco,” commented frontman Todd Smith. “Playing to a sold out crowd of
500 in the sweltering Ottobar, Knives Out! opened the show and made a intense,
aggressive and energetic impression on the crowd. From the first note it was
mayhem! We are very excited to see the fans of our other previous and current
bands embracing Knives Out! so unconditionally. We have the greatest fans!”

Guitarist Jasan Stepp has also landed an endorsement with Fender guitars. Stepp
used Fender guitars during the recording of the group’s debut album, which was
recorded at Wrightway Studios in Baltimore, MD.

“The Jim Root Tele is the heaviest sounding guitar that I’ve ever heard,”
commented Steep. “Forget about a Les Paul, if you are in a detuned band this is
the ride. The long scale length and string-thru body make it absolutely perfect
for lower tunings. The clarity of tone that this instrument produces is nothing
less than shocking.”

Knives Out! consists of vocalist Todd Smith (DOG FASHION DISCO,POLKADOT
CADAVER), guitarist Jasan Stepp (DOG FASHION DISCO, POLKADOT CADAVER), drummer
Tommy Sickles (NOTHINGFACE), bassist Dave Cullen (POLKADOT CADAVER) and
guitarist Tom Maxwell (HELLYEAH, NOTHINGFACE).
